Beyond Healing hired Putting Abilities to Work to paint our entire office space, which included four small offices and one large open space. They did an excellent job and were very pleasant to be around. They always straightened up the office space before they left. They also helped us put together and move furniture. They were all very sweet and easy to work with. I would definitely hire them again. – Valerie Milgrom, Beyond Healing
Putting Abilities to Work has shredded hundreds of boxes of files for us over the last few years and their service has been excellent in every case. We continue to use them for all our projects and highly recommend their shredding services. – Bill Hamilton, Commercial One Realtors
The young men who came to my house to clean the carpet were both professional and efficient. I would use their services again and recommend them to family and friends. – Charlene Woods, Home Owner
“Putting Abilities to Work”
Putting Abilities to Work provides an opportunity for local Businesses and Entrepreneurs to put the abilities of our collective group of individuals with developmental disabilities to work.
Our diverse and capable crews have a wide range of physical and/or developmental limitations. Their skill sets are best applied in the following three areas:
- Janitorial/Light Cleaning
- Document Shredding/Document Scanning
Why Utilize Putting Abilities to Work???
- Cost Effective—Commercial Cleaning Rates average 25%-35% less than Commercial Cleaning Companies.
- Dependable crew that will report timely and consistently.
- Crew Supervisor accompanies each work site and will ensure duties are completed to your satisfaction.
- Crew does not become an employee, therefore, Putting Abilities to Work is responsible for compensating crew and insurances.
- Increase your existing staffs’ morale, as they will not need to perform certain duties (janitorial, shredding & scanning are generally tasks your employees enjoy the least).
- Putting Abilities to Work will promote your company via our website. Your company logo and link to your website will be added under the “In Good Company” section.
- Work-site Feedback Card is left after each assignment. Putting Abilities to Work welcomes your comments/feedback in order to respond quickly and address any issues in a timely manner.

Melissa Gourley, MSW, LSW, Owner of Upreach, LLC, has created a series of affiliate companies that are held together with a common thread….they all wrap their arms around a community of individuals with Learning & Developmental Disabilities. Obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Dominican and a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from The Ohio State University supplied her with the fundamentals to support and assist the Disabled Community. Sincere compassion, connection and love for the Disabled Individuals are the true ingredients that sustain her, motivate her and bring her joy and satisfaction everyday! “I have always liked helping people and as a young girl growing up I always wanted to start a business.” So as fate would have it, her dreams have come true.
Combining education along with her work experiences at Mary Haven, Brooks Homes Supported Living, Mount Carmel West and The Ohio State University Nisonger Center equipped Melissa with the operational knowledge to start a business assisting those with Disabilities. The Upreach Group, founded in 2003 provides in-home supported living care for those with Disabilities who need anywhere from minimal help around their home to those who require 24 hour/day care. 130 children and adults are cared for and assisted by 230 Staff Members who provide the services throughout Franklin County.
In 2006, private companies were allowed to offer adult habilitation centers and education programs for those with disabilities and hence, Learning Never Ends, LLC was born. The concept started with just a few individuals and because of word- of- mouth, along with demand to help train and educate those with Learning Disabilities, the space was outgrown and LNE moved to a new location off Busch Boulevard in May 2012. LNE focuses the majority of their day on job readiness activities and has created a spirit of people who really want to work and be employed!
Abilities combined with reputation, resulted in a third affiliate company, a non-profit that officially launched in February 2014, appropriately entitled ‘Putting Abilities To Work.’ Approximately half of the individuals within the LNE program are able to get out into the community and put their abilities to work. Four to six “crew members” arrive together at a work-site accompanied by a supervisor and each one of them are ready, willing and able to perform janitorial, clerical, document shredding or document scanning services. “We understand some of the stigmatisms and sterotypes, and we are making an effort to bridge that gap and we want companies to realize that once you get to know our “crews,” you will fall in love with them and look forward to having them come back.”
Yes, the “crew members” have disabilities, but everyone’s mindset is to focus ON their abilities and whey they CAN do! Companies are providing the opportunity for the “crews” to work in a safe and supervised environment; but, even more importantly, the company is really providing meaning and purpose to another person’s life!
At the end of the day, Melissa is so proud to know in her heart that a segment of the Disabled Community in Ohio has been treated with love, encouragement and respect. “I can sleep well at night as I get to witness a staff that shows love to our people and I know they are taken care of.”
Melissa strives to be an innovator and to “never take no for an answer” when it comes to impacting changes that will benefit the Disabled Community. She has adopted this drive and determination from her Mentor and Colleague, Dr. Tom Fish. Upreach LLC and the three affiliate companies were founded by an amazing woman with big dreams and a bigger heart. Melissa Gourley is someone who is exactly where she should be and doing exactly what she is called to do! “Connection, Compassion and Love are all it takes to be welcomed into assisting the Disabled Community and working within The Upreach Group. In turn, you will receive a gift that is even bigger. I know this to be true, because I receive it everyday!” Melissa Gourley, MSW, LSW, Owner, Upreach, LLC. 614.348.4035, Melissa@upreachgroup.com
